what is the EXACT error message.
  • I had this last week. I had to go into 'settings' (I use Chrome) and into advanced and untick a box which said 'use proxy'. Dont know what browser you are using but there was an issue recently which caused this.

A proxy server is a third-party you connect to, accessing the internet indirectly through them. It can be a security risk as a malicious proxy server operator could analyse your web traffic to extract paswords, etc.

Certain malware can change your web browser's proxy settings. It would probably be a good idea to run a few scans to make sure you haven't been infected. :-)

•make sure the web address http:// is correct
•look for the page with your search engine
•refresh the page in a few minutes

But at the bottom if my screen, the wifi shows full bars and connected??

Thanks PM, I use Internet explorer and looked in 'tools', then 'Internet options' and 'advanced' but couldn't see anything regarding proxys?

    Thanks again

I use AVG 2013 and also Malwarebytes and run them as habit twice a week, but found nothing?

The instructions above were for Chrome. In IE if you go to Tools, Internet Options and pick Connections (not advanced) and Lan Settings you will see if there is a tick in the proxy box.

Based on personal experience it will return. It's been discussed on here a few times recently. Here is one thread with a potential fix:
