Archos firmware update

I've seen there is a firmware update for an Archos 80 cobalt (bought as a cheap refurb for my grandkids to play on), and the instructions for the update say
"Copy the « update.img » to the root of the Internal Storage".
I'd prefer not to totally kill the tablet, so would someone be kind enough to explain to me, simply, what exactly to do. I'm almost sure I know what to do but just in case... Thanks very much.
