Cheap energy club switch mess

Ok so I'm after a little advice. Here's my situation.

I did have my gas and elec with Eon, but the bill went up from £60 to £120 around Oct/Nov 2013. So I joined the Cheap Energy Club and went through the switch process. This advised me that Npower would be around £470 cheaper a year.

So I went for the swtich, entering all the information it asked, including up to date meter readings. This was on the 12th Dec 13. I didn't hear anything so on the 7th Jan. I rang Npower to be told it was in hand and I would hear shortly. I then didn't hear anything until the 27th Jan which was an email saying that I'd agreed to enter a contract on the 31st Dec 13 and that my monthly payment would be £238.37. Only £113 more expensive than im currently paying.

I rang Npower today to ask them why and to say that if thats the case I don't want to go ahead with them. I was told that I am one day over my 14 day cooling off period. I'm furious about it. I haven't got that money in our budget.

I've logged a complained but been told it could take 56 days to be looked into.

Where do I stand. I'm so confused, angry at them and myself and just want to forget it leave it where I was.

I could scream or cry. Can anyone help me out.

Ash.

  • Hi Ash. Unfortunately you'll get no help from anyone. I tried to switch dual fuel to np in October 2013. They did elec but still, 11Feb have not done the gas. I have complained time and again, and to MSE. For me it's a nightmare too.
Monday I got a letter from np saying that as 8 weeks have passed I can now complain to the Ombudsman!
I plan to await transfer of gas, whenever - to switch away now would mess further. And then I will be off elsewhere, even if it's dearer. I will never use MSE again for a fuel switch and I'll never use npower.
  • After speaking to Npower last night the chap was really helpful, which was a surprise after I what I've read. He thinks that there is a discrepency between what I actually use, what I inputted into the MSE switch service and what they've received. Hi thinks that jump from £120 to £238 is mistake as if my useage was the same then they wouldn't be that much more expensive. I need to get my KWH usage for the last 12 months from Eon and they'll see if they can adjust it.

How can MSE continue to offer this service if it so full of errors and complaints???
  • You are not alone; I have lost money after using the cheap energy club switch advice.
I registered on 13 October 2013 and after reviewing options decided to switch provider to npower as an existing deal with Scottish power was finishing on 01 November - it wasn't until 15 january that I received an e-mail from npower that the process of the switch was just starting and would take 5-6 weeks! I went onto a standard rate with Scottish power from November and now npower is estimating £40 a month more than the cheap energy club calculations estimated ( which were more than the original providers previous bill anyway due to energy price rises- npower are asking for £264.83 a month when the cheap energy club estimated approx £225).

I am now going back to the original provider at a fixed rate lower than the one I left, saving me about £100 a month off the new npower charges ...in the meantime have paid at least £160 I needn't have done if the switch had occurred when it should have done/and if the cheap energy club sites calculations were correct. The site has not alerted me to any changes with Scottish powers rates which means it is now much cheaper than npower. There is also some significant discrepancy with the sites calculations if npower can turn around after I signed up and say that the same energy usage that the Energy club were provided with requires an extra £40 a month in charges.
Only response after raising this with the cheap energy club a week ago was an automated response.

Won't be trusting this site again.

  • Who can I complain to about the Energy Saving club???? Using it has been a nightmare and hasn't saved me anywhere near as much as they claimed they could?

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
