I make mine as I need it. Using a whole lettuce I take the leaves off as I need them. Tear the leaves off apparently rather than cutting means that the core stays fresher longer.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

I don't use lettuce or cabbage. I open a can of sweetcorn, add cress, a diced cucumber, 3 mixed peppers chopped, a red onion, diced radishes. This is amazing stuff, I mix it all up and then split into 8 little plastic tubs which is 4 days worth of lunches for the two of us to go with a sandwich and some fruit. It is pretty good at lasting the 4 days. Its nice and crunchy, tasty and takes a while to eat so satisfying too.

Thanks for this purple45. I made this last week and my husband and I really enjoyed it. I only made up half the amount and when we had finished it I then made up the other half.

We buy round lettuce now which has a softer leaf anyway but my top tips are to keep all the veg in the bottom drawer of the fridge and if your fridge is anything like mine set the drawer to the coldest it can be (not sure how my fridge works but the two drawers have a slider each with which you can make them colder. Alternatively I have previously kept ice blocks in the veg drawer underneath everything and just swapped them on alternate days
