I am a florist and I have never asked to see anyone elses quote. Our price is our price. If its too expensive then we can look at substituting flowers where possible for a cheaper alternative (carnations in the table decorations instead of roses, for example) but have never price matched.
  • It's so annoying! A real bug bear for me. No one else's price should matter, give me your best price - simple!!

We're using a florist that we've used for years however I was shocked at the price of them. Not going to have flowers to dress the ceremony room, going to try and be a bit more creative.
  • why not ask for tenders for your custom, on twitter / facebook ? link to list of requirements.. only seriously interested shops will give a price!
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • I'm not on either twitter or Facebook. I have 1 other shop to quote me yet, and my original shop phoning me tomorrow (well today now) so will see. They're the ones who will charge £30 to deliver

TBH, if you have a friendly local shop whom you are happy with, and who are happy to deliver for a fee, then why are you worrying about it?

All my wedding suppliers were local (mainly small) businesses, because I would rather see money go into the local economy. My florist wasn't cheapest, but she was the one I felt happiest with, and who understood what I wanted.

I'm not worrying about it at all, I asked whether it was normal practice for a florist to behave this way when undoubtedly they would like the business/income. I found a florist I liked but they said they weren't willing to travel as far as they would have to, so I thought it would make more sense to scope out florists local to the venue, and then get quotes to see who would be the most economical for us. I then rang my original florist and asked if I paid delivery would they be willing to travel and they said yes, which as previously mentioned, I'm happy about.

Sorry if I appear harsh, the tone of her email wasn't exactly what I would term as "prepared to lower her prices"

This is one of the problems with communicating this way and not by speaking personally.

Things can be taken so many ways, when perhaps not meant that way.

whilst I agree with you, it wasn't as if I had only communicated with her via email. I rang her, had a brief chat about what I required, she asked me to email her the details so she could look into it better, and asked me to mention the amount I had previously been quoted. I did this, and then the tone of her reply was not at all pleasant. It was not the context in which I interpreted it as OH has read it too.

Your friend tried what? Speaking to her customers rudely?
