Pre employment screening

Hi all,

Hope you can help me.

I am looking for a new job after 20 years of service with one employer.

My credit rating is not so good at the moment due to 2 defaults totaling £350.00. Does anyone know if companies check for defaults as part of hiring a new candidate. I have no CCJ'S or IVA'S.

No criminal convictions either, If I get offered a job, I am going to tell them about my credit rating. Just so they know up front.

Any advice?

Thanks

It depends WHAT type of job you are going for. With what kind of checks. Some employers will only check for public records, such as CCJ's and BR. If it's a more in depth check though then they will want a full financial picture.

Other times they will check your level of debt, how you're managing it, etc, etc. As a badly managed financial situation can be seen as a fraud/corruption/security risk.

So be upfront from the start.
  • Most telecom companies and Banks will do credit checks on u. The vast majority of other employers go on references from previous employers out which there will be some which require u to submit a CRB to check if u have any criminal background especially if it involves working with vulnerable people or children.

My employer performs credit checks and my colleague had a default which she was up front about, she had paid if off or was making payments to it.

Some employers only do public record checks, they would have to ask your approval to check your CRA entries so I guess this would indicate what kind of check they carried out.

Best to be up front and tell them you had some finance issues however if you have made no attempt to pay the defaults then I woudn't be to optimistic.
All that glitters is not gold.
