Tuesday 11th February - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending

    Good morning,Happy penny pinching Tuesday

I did a Tesco shop last night.Went a bit later @ 7pm to see difference in price the reduced bit was.Well! I was disappointed. The only reduced was some ready made sandwiches I did not want.
Spent 47.57 on staple needs = 3 milk, 2 loafs, potatoes, eggs, fruit and veg. Orange squash, Pork chops and sausages etc, etc....

Picked up the McCain frozen jacket potatoes I am testing. I think 1.65 for 2 small frozen spuds is a bit costly.

Just having morning coffee and husband is making bacon sandwiches for breakfast. yum!

I wonder how many surveys I shall be asked to do today? I did plenty yesterday.

Just turned off x3 early morning lights, all curtains open and it is getting light now at 8am.

I have tidied up my clothes cupboard and moved things around so diffrent tops get worn.

I started reading my kindle then curled up like a little dormouse and went back to sleep.

Dinner = pork chops, new potatoes and fresh steamed veg.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)
  • Morning thanks for starting the thread LPS :)

Sorry I haven't been around for a while, feeling a little fed up - work & personal issues getting me down :( have found out as I am a FTC and my company has announced a restructure I won't even be able to apply for my own job until after the people who are at risk of redundancy have applied and either been appointed to my role or it is still available. Feel really fed up over this as I have worked so hard & given so much to this role. Back to the job search....

Anyway must try to keep my head above water!

    Morning everyone!

Ikesmummy - thanks for starting us off. Ziggy, I hope they can get to the bottom of it. Determined - that sounds grim. Hang in there.

Heres todays list - I'm inspired every day by something someone writes on here, so my wanna do list tends to grow!

    • Read up the energy saving post by foxgloves (I think?) a few days ago. I was reading on a mobile screen but there were some gems in there that I don't yet do. Interested in the heated airers - have seen these in lakeland before now - and also, if anyone has any tips on how to clean out thermos flasks to get rid of the flasky taste??? Trying bicarb of soda in the flask...
    • Swagbucks - DONE. Just checked out another £5 voucher but haven't received the first one yet. Not sure what the process is really - both orders are stated as verified now...
    • Staying in bed to do laptop things rather than put heating on! DONE
    • Walking up to town (in rain) later - need to gradually build exercise in again after a few weeks laid up. Meeting DM for lunch at p-xpress using tescimo tokens :)DONE and bought half my pizza home foe lunch 2mrw!
    • DD has offered to make bread this afternoon. We are new converts to this after hearing lots about it on here, and finding a (very out of date) granary flour in the storecupboard (it worked fine on Friday!) DONE, although its baking now (10pm!)
    • paying guest coming tonight - need to tidy house and make bed for her. Ideally just a skim through as we had guests at the weekend too, so its not too messy! DONE, plus ironing too (latter courtesy of DM)
    • In town - drop off application for residents pass to our local cathedral and go and get a stash of free leaflets from tourist information. DONE and Bob, I walked again!
    • Make date for outlaws to come to us for dinner - saw them last night and they clearly are missing DD now they don't sit for her regularly
    • Research holiday accommodation - cheap options that will minimise cost of traveling once we are there
    • List items on Ebay - free listing today! Got burnt by p&p on last few bits :( must do better research next time!
    • List items on Facebay
    • DD has running tonight but more storms may mean she doesn't want to go (saving us £3!) She didn't!
    • Update budgets and signature DONE
    • Arrange DD for family loan (direct debit!!! not DD!) NOT DONE YET
    • Ex keen to speak about money he owes me. Horay. Its not much but with more costs coming our way from school trips etc I will be glad if he keeps on top of it. DONE. AWKWARD AS EVER!
    • Friend has been encouraging me to consider taking students in over summer. Need to work out cost/benefit of this. Existing paying guests don't need extra food beyond breakfast but only tend to book one or two nights at a time. But may be nicer for DD to have young people staying. Possibly worth a try. Didn't do sums yet

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi Everyone

Thanks for starting the thread LPS.

Hoping the weather is not to extreme for any of you, its pretty wild out there today in London but nothing to bad in my area.

Determined - Sorry to hear about your job, it is never nice to feel you've poured so much of yourself into something only to see it not work out.

Good Advice - Those yellow label shops are either great arent they or pants. For ages the local shop to me just seemed to have 2 packs of beer where 1 had been taken out, so they were selling reduced, for not that much cheaper. And besides, I would struggle to see beer as something I'd stock up on as a bargain.

Ziggy - Hope you manage to get out tonight & enjoy the birthday meal.

Crazylady - Glad I inspired you yesterday to get out to the post on foot.

    Well me today.

    1) Did all the usuals, son off to school with a lunchbox, husband with a packed lunch. Im heading to a friends for coffee shortly myself.
    2) Checked Adpoints & did some for a change. The spooky home invasion film fills me with terror, for 4 points! Not something I'd usually watch IRL.
    3) GreasyPalm daily clicks, looks like I havent had them credited for a few days, will keep an eye.
    4) Music Magpie have finally released our funds but will now be 3-5 days to recieve them.
    5) Dinner planned for tonight
    6) Used a 1p off brand match coupon to buy fruit this morning. Also noted the self service check out had done me out of 80p that I'd paid in. The check out lady ended up paying it herself which felt a bit wrong to me, I wonder how often they do that, I assume she'll be paid it back by Sainsbos.
    7) Checked banking & business banking. Utter panic really on the business front. I knew my VAT was coming out soon but recieved no email notification from HMRC to say on what day, well its tommorow apparently. Am going to have one of those hideous days where if certain other payments land at the same time I could end up either on the phone to the bank begging them to honor the payments, or pee off my suppliers, or trying to scrabble around & find the shortfall myself. All depends on how today goes as well I suppose. Life. I suspect will be updating my time since financial disasters ticker below back to zero soon....
    8) Husband & I are going to try and do a romantic dinner in for our valentines evening this friday. Im not really into v day, but I feel like I've been neglecting our relationship so much lately, mainly due to stress, & it feels bad. So he's in charge on that front.

Good luck to everyone today saving those pennies.

    Bob
