Its known as inertia selling and you don't have to pay for goods that are sent to you that you didn't request. I'd try getting onto your MIL's credit card company and see if they can sort something out. If they are a little hesitant point out that they are jointly liable under section 75 of the consumer credit act for goods > £100.
