They bunged antifreeze into it to sweeten it. Really dangerous stuff. Huge fuss at the time ('85) after which it vanished from the British market pretty thoroughly.

Thanks for this... The time I don't look at the back of their offers paper instore.:(:( I've just got 3 packs of carrots from Mr M (£1.50). I've also been buying items on mbuy that don't have the mbuy on the SELs:rotfl::rotfl:. (Just shows, yet again, how you can't shop properly by seeing prices on shelves instore. Which is precisely how the vast majority of people shop and what they rely on.)
I saw the 2-pack own brand (frozen) slices, happened to be steak ones I wanted, could have been Cheese & Onion instead I think. You can't trust them - the store where I used to do most of the M collections up until I got doubly asked to leave. It just had the plain £1.00 price on them. I took two to the SS though and an mbuy came off. I was quite pleased with that - at least I didn't have to have an SA over to cancel them for me and have them thinking I was up to something dodgy.
So I had the two steak slices packs for total £1.50 but put nearly all the 'saving' back again by having lost 33p on the carrots. I'll try to feel better by imagining that I bought them this week to last through till next week (when the ones in Lidl due to go even cheaper). But I didn't need to have them this week and could have abstained on any carrots until next week. Oh well...!!0 -
When I was a student back in the 70s you could still buy Austrian wine (before the great scandal)!
All the wine anybody drank was white German or Yugoslavian wine. Red wasn't seen as sophisticated, as if we were!:rotfl:
Made my own wine (it was covered in my degree, so no big deal). It was OK.
Also made my own beer. Nobody would ever drink it twice. Including me.
I still remember a guest at Christmas in our house turning up with a bottle of blue nun. My Grandma thought it was shocking and made sure it never got opened and carried on with the sherry and advocaat (yuk!) as per every other Christmas......the blue nun sat in the back if the drinks cabinet for years
The drinks cabinet had a key:rotfl::rotfl:

I don't think they do. Looking at what people buy I dont think the majority even look at sel they just know they need x y and z and put it in their trolley even if 2x is cheaper than x. They are Muggles they can not see what we seeWhen The Fun Stops Stop0 -

Thats why FC and myself get on so well, she knows her place, and its next to the iron!
