School Govenor's Meeting Minutes

Hi
Just wondering if anyone knows if, as a parent I am able to request a copy of the minutes of the School Govenor meetings.

I understand that some items are 'confidential', obviously but that the 'non- confidential' general ones are available to view.

Do some schools put them on their website?
Thanks

You can request a copy from the school or the clerk to the governors. They are public documents so you are entitled to a copy. Confidential items such as pay or disciplinary issues are dealt with in a separate section which isn't made public

My children's schools don't put them on their website but no reason why they shouldn't be so have a look at your schools website first

Thanks for your replies. I am just not sure how to approach the school to request them?

It's a very small school so nothing goes unnoticed. A chat with a teacher can result in a cold shoulder from a cliquey parent. It's tiresome! Not the idyllic country school we had hoped for.

Have a look on the website to see if it says who the clerk is. Often that will be someone independent of the school - from the local authority or a professional clerking service. If so you can request the minutes from them direct.

Otherwise fudge it and say you are interested in becoming a governor or interested in knowing more about the school to see how you can support them and want the minutes for that reason?

To be honest I am chair of governors at DDs school and it wouldn't faze me in the slightest if a parent asked for a copy of the minutes. It shouldn't be a Big deal for anyone.
