At last! Good deal for existing Barclaycard customers

Options
I'm quite new round these parts, so if I'm committing a ghastly sin by posting this, I'm really sorry!

Anyway, I've had a Barclaycard for nearly 20 years; I've not used it in about 8, but hadn't ever got round to cancelling it. Today, I got myself sorted and phoned up to cancel the card...and got passed over to (I'm guessing) customer retention people. They asked why I was cancelling, so I said that it was nothing personal, but there were so many 0% cards around that it didn't make sense to stay. And, whaddya know, I was suddenly offered 12 months interest free. Woo!

I just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else was in a similar position. I know it's not a pain to change cards, but I didn't have to do any re-registering etc. Hope it helps some of you. :-)

Oh, sorry, yes; should have made that clearer, I suppose. Since I've not used it in years, I assumed it was obvious that the balance was £0, but of course it isn't!

Glad you got a piece of it too, although, sickeningly, if you're a new customer, there's currently a 30 month 0% on balance transfers (on the Platinum card, anyway). Still, better than a poke in the eye. :-)

There's a big thread on here on Barclaycard retention, a fair few people got £50 in cash apparently so there's always more to push for hen you speak to them!

I have a Barclaycard which I have never used, since it went from Egg to them.

They keep sending me balance transfer offers, which I don't need, so haven't bothered with.

Also the limit is £500 after I reduced the limit when I transferred the balance from the Egg card years ago, so couldn't transfer much anyway.

Their latest letter to me is offering me 0% for 12 months and also an increase in the limit to over £2k.

I'm surprised they haven't decided to close my card down, others such as Tesco & Halifax both closed my card for non use, after a couple of BT offers, which I didn't take them up on.

Is that the one that still pays 1% Cashback (ex- "Egg Money")?

If so, I'd have thought it could be quite useful and worth hanging on to (I have one myself).
