Hi

I am proposing to partner on valentines day, everything is set for the big day. I have a ring and it is a placeholder ring as I want us to go shopping together for an engagement ring.

What are you opinions of a placeholder ring?

I think that's the most sensible option to be honest- it means you don't have to stress about whether you've made the right choice and I'm sure she'll enjoy shopping with you for one.

Personally I never got an engagement ring (placeholder or otherwise!) and I still said yes ;) So don't worry about it, I'm sure she will be thrilled!

Thank you so much, I'm really excited for friday I cannot wait.
  • My husband proposed to me without a ring as he wanted me to choose my own, but we chose one together in the end. I was so pleased to be engaged I was happy to wait for the ring!

I was thinking of the jewellery quarter in Birmingham for ring shopping, sounds like its the place to go for great engagement rings.

Mine just came from a high street jeweller as we didn't have much to spend but in hindsight I wish we'd gone to a proper jewellery area like Birmingham as I'm sure we still would have got more for our money. I still love my ring! :)

My daughters first husband had passed away and she had had the sparkly ring etc. When she was going out with her now husband she expressed that she didn't want an engagement ring. They had a family day out to lego land with her 2 little boys. He went prepared with a lego ring and proposed to her there. She has kept the ring for the love it was made with.

You get much more for your money in the Jewellery Quarter. I used to live there and you could make a proper day out of it- there are some lovely pubs both in the Jewellery Quarter and nearby St. Pauls Square.
