PayPoint - cash advance

Hi all, probably a silly question, but hopefully someone can help me out:

I have an electricity keypad in my house - top up codes can be bought online or via PayPoint at a shop.

For some reason I can't use my credit card (only my debit card) to top up online. If I go via the PayPoint route and use my credit card in store, is that treated as a normal purchase, or is it a cash advance?

I see no reason why it wouldn't be a normal purchase, but I'd like to be sure!

  • In my local Spar they treat it as a purchase - I have never had any problems topping my gas and electric keys/cards.

It should be a purchase, BUT your local shop may not take credit cards for paypoint as they may lose money

If you buy some of their overpriced goods at the same time then maybe they will be more amenable
