I've had msn messenger 7 for some months now with no problems but suddenly its just started to block files saying they are potentially unsafe. This is any file at all even jpg. On Monday daytime it was working fine, I sent and recieved files no prob but by Tuesday it started to display the notice. I can send files just not recieve.
I have closed down my zonealarm free to test if its that but no change, I have closed down my macafee antivirus and again no difference. I've uninstalled and reinstalled msn 7 and no change... I havent changed anything on the comp at all the only thing i did was create an msn id for my grandaughter on monday night dont know if its anything to do with that. It is version 7.0 and I'm win98 IE 6
Anyone got a solution?

You can either
1. Rename the file to something that doesn't have a blocked extension and then send it (you need to tell the receiver to name it back). E.g. myfile.zip -> myfile.abc, receiver renames myfile.abc to myfile.zip.
or
2. Download the MSN patch from http://www.mess.be/ which will let you send blocked files. It also has a list of blocked extensions. Unfortunately you can't link directly to a page on that site, so you need to find the tweak manually (look in the downloads section).0 -
Hi thanx
I tried changing the name and that works, bit inconvenient but I don't understand why others can recieve with no problem but anyway I wasn't too keen to put the patch thing on coz it says its against msns terms and to do it at my own risk... I don't understand why it was fine before though
It seems to be only pictures that are being blocked. MP3s and videos go through fine so it's a bit of a mysteryThanx
