Pet Insurance

Hi all,
My dog was recently hit by a car, resulting in two broken legs but thankfully no internal injuries. Because of the way her fractures were, she was referred to a specialist orthopedic vet. Despite cones / heavy bandages etc she has managed to pull her staples out twice now. Thankfully now she is properly on the mend.
I am deeply committed to this animal but even now every time she needs to go back to the vet I just see pound signs. Her two broken legs, repeat staples and emergency care are now at about £5800. Crazy money that I never ever thought I'd spend on a pet. I do not begrudge this to the vets - they train long and hard and employ great people.
I suppose this is really a warning to those without pet insurance. My insurance has covered about half of the above but without it the dog would be dead. I never want to be in a position again where I am having to make such decisions based on money not health / quality of life.
My regret is perhaps only going for the £3k maximum rather than £5k but somethings you just can't foresee.
Just thought I'd relay my experience to encourage others to make sure they are covered.

Interestingly I was at the vet this morning for Cheddar's (a kitten) pre neutering check up and she mentioned insurance.
I must admit I hadn't thought about it for a cat, we don't have it for our rabbit.
The vat recommended the £7k payout and the for life cover too. We've decided to take it out.Kate short for Bob.
