British Gas Homecare 300
just a rant really, but this cover is not worth the paper its printed on if you're boiler is on their restricted parts list.
from now on going to put the money wasted on this cover into a separate account and use if needed, a boiler service is only around 75.00 + VAT.
you live and learn, see where my complaints with british gas and gas safe get me.
now installing a new boiler with 5 year warranty and if we use an independent local gassafe engineer, we will have saved the 5 years homecare cover which means we effectively get a free boiler.
418 less 90 for service 328 x 5 £1640, new bolier installed £1750.00

Why do you say that? BG will still get available parts the next day, obsolete parts are obsolete parts (and any engineer should phone the manufacturer direct to double check that the part really is obsolete).0

They don't have a 'restricted parts list' they have a 'reduced spares list' which is compiled from data given to them from the manufacturers of parts they no longer supply.
This is why every time they come round they tell you the boiler is on the reduced spares list and parts may no longer be available etc and this is why you always whinge that bg are trying to sell you a new boiler when there's nothing wrong with the one you've got.....etc etc blah blah blah.0 -
Redued spares / restricted parts same thing surely. I did suggest it was a rant. I've got gas safe coming to investigate my complaint. My main concern is the same fault has been miss diagnosed for at least five years and missed in every annual inspection.
Happily cancelled my cover. Also in the process of cancelling two of my business contracts with them. The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -

Becasue to fix my 14 year old boiler it may cost 400 pounds as once it's on restricted parts you have to pay.
My main gripe is the threat of "I'm not blackmailing you but...."The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
Or it may cost 800 pounds depending if the first fix doesn't work.
As always it's buyer beware if you have homecare cover check the small print and whether your boiler if older is on restricted parts.

You've picked up the wrong end of the stick there, reduced spares is parts that are unobtainable, they are not restricted they dont exsist You won't be being charged for parts. You may be being charged for work done on your system that is a result of sludge or scale which is not covered and never has been.
You and the engineer seem to have misunderstood each other, probably worth clarifying the situation prior to complaints which will be fruitless.0 -
I do understand what the parts mean hence them wanting to charge me for none oem parts.
Anyway my main issue is the term blackmail and the fact he was happy to leave the system switched on if he was coming back. But not for a another gas safe engineer to fix.
How can it be safe in one case and not the other. The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -
I don't understand what's happened here, if your boiler needs an obsolete part no one will be able to get the part, let alone make you pay for it? BG do not charge homecare customers for parts unless it's a fault caused by sludge and scale, as Ollski said. I know it's a moot point now but i'm curious, what boiler is it?
edit: What is the "none-OEM" part are you referring to specifically?0
