Volvo in Chinese hands for a year!!!!
ETC
How in Gods good name will that affect the quality of a 5 year old car.
Sometimes I despair about posts.0 -
Maybe just a general observation.0

The quality dip was due to the 10 year tenure by Ford, nothing to do with the recent Chinese bailout.
I really thought most parents had turned away from the "two kids sitting in the crumple zone" style of people carrying?0 -
Pre mid 2003 V70 20v are quite reliable cars, they went rapidly downhill with the updated version.Be happy...;)0

Except that what you don't realise is that the traditional volvo engine was canned many years ago and replaced with lower quality workhorses. Volvo have been struggling to stay afloat for years - hardly surprising when they build solid cars and thus have little return custom (parts etc).
Then look at Renault, Peugeot, Citroen... all build questionable cars and they're thriving because customers are captive to them.
Volvo were almost bought by Renault in the late 90s and the two did a lot of engine sharing - consequently there are actually a few renaults with volvo lumps that are highly reliable and also Volvos with renault lumps - that Volvo did their magic with to make just as reliable.
Being in chinese hands for a year makes little difference so your post is void because they've been in trouble for years and their engine quality isn't what it once was. Nissan went the same way after being bought by Renault. Their 4x4 trucks used to be solid but how many Navaras have been destroying blocks in the last few years?0 -
I had a 52 plate V70 (bought at 3 years old with 72K on the clock) and an 06 plate XC70 from new - both had the rear-facing seats in the boot and were absolutely terrific cars with lots of grunt. The XC70 effectively started to die at about 6 years old which dented my faith in the brand but I would agree with those who say that the older-style models (pre 2007) are bette in terms of looks and overall quality.
The only caveat is that finding a car with the rear-facing seats as well as the built in booster seats is not that easy. I was looking for almost a year before I found the V70. Still miss it!0 -
Big Volvo fan, lots of car for little money. Tend to have niggling faults consumate of similar age cars but lots of specialists around to help save the big bills. I have an XC60 and it is a brilliant motor.
Though you need to head to the Volvo Owners Club forum and gather some facts rather than just opinions here.0
