Hi, I'm new to this so please bear with me. I am looking at renewing our buildings and contents insurance and my question is regarding legal protection. Does anyone know what this actually covers you for? I would like to make an informed decision but not sure what it covers you for. Many Thanks :)

  • Legal expenses cover varies by provider so you actually need to read the terms.

Generally it covers the legal costs to pursue a claim against a third party in a number of classes of law, most typically you are looking at:

    Employment (eg unfair dismissal)
    Property (eg boundary dispute)
    Personal Injury (excluding car accidents)
    Contract (eg faulty goods)

It will cover the cost of the solicitor etc but only where they feel you have a reasonable prospect of success

Additionally most include a 24/7 legal advice line on any topic
  • Many Thanks, InsideInsurance, this is really helpful. Kind Regards

I think it covers you for instance if the postman fall over and hurts himself on your drive.

No, that would come under your Public/Third Party liability that forms part of your Buildings or Contents (depending on what happened).

LE is about pursuing claims, not defending them
