Bridesmaid Dresses that won't break the bank!

Hi ladies (and men!)

Currently on the hunt for 3 adult bridesmaid dresses in mid blue (not too fussy on the colour as long as it's blue!!), chiffon, strapless, maxi style. Brands like Dessy and Mori Lee proving far too expensive, realistically my top budget would be £200 per dress but that would be through gritted teeth!!

In an ideal world, £150 or less. Having issues buying them from the highstreet as one of my girls is 5'10".

Has anyone got any ideas as losing the will to live? Thought about getting them made but heard horror stories, same re buying them from china.

  • I've been a bridesmaid twice and both times my dad's cousin made the dresses (she's also making my wedding dress). If you're a bit concerned about horror stories could you maybe ask around locally for any recommendations?

  • What about having a look on ebay? :)
  • When I was 15 I was bridesmaid for my brother - the dress was Alfred Angelo, I think it was about £150 (but I am not sure and that was a while ago now unfortunately) but I am 5'11 and had no problems with length.

Apparently, alot of dresses are designed for 5'10 women (as its easier to cut down than it is to add length) so maybe worth approaching a few shops and explaining your budget (I would prob drop it by a fraction so you can 'stretch' further but stay within what you originally had in mind) and your requirements see what they have to say?

I'm getting mine made - £100 each including a fabric corsage (which they are putting it in their hair). Have a look in your local yellow pages or ask other suppliers for recommendations. My make up artist recommended mine to me!

I bought my bridesmaid's dresses from BHS (when they were in the half price sale - very MSE!). They are REALLY long, I think you'd have to be at least 6' to wear them as they are! Will have to get them all taken up. You can always buy them from there and then send them back if they are not suitable - I'm pretty sure they do free returns too.

I got my bridesmaid dresses were the Evie ones from BHS and they are definately geared for taller ladies. One bridesmaid is 5,2" and she needs a fair few inches taking off the dress!!!
  • Coast normally do gorgeous dresses perfect bridesmaid wear x
  • I also got the BHS twist and wrap dresses which are quite long. Both my bm's will need to get them taken up.

  • My BM dresses are also the BHS twist and wrap dresses in Sapphire (not sure they do them anymore though)

The dresses they have in Navy are here and the dresses in Ocean here
They also have cornflower blue options too.

The twist and wrap dresses are long. All 3 of my bridesmaids they are coming up long on.
