Advice on Catalogue Accounts?

Hi Jam555s,
This is my first post (of many I hope) you moved me to register.
I had a bit of a bad spell of spending on loans and credit cards when I was a young foolish lad and got the bad credit rating that went with it.
Now six years later I got two accounts from two separate catalogue companies (LX Direct and Freemans) I worked my way up again getting a large APR Capitol one Card I used this a few times only buying what I already had the money for and paying off the balance at the end of the month.
I have now managed to build my credit rating up to a point where I have just been given a credit card and £100.00 overdraft (I only went in to pay in a cheque) from my bank whom18 months ago turned me down for a car loan and told me that they could not even offer an overdraft or credit card, just a quick note when I was talking to the manager I said (as I have read on here) yes I am interested in your card but if you can do a credit search without leaving any footprints on my rating as I am very protective of it and if you turn me down I don’t want any record, well he put my name and account number in the computer and said “no need to do a credit rating the computer says yes!”, I did notice that he looked through Experian after saying yes though.
The only thing I will say as I read on here and what you have already mentioned is; keep up with the monthly repayments on your catalogue and if you can pay back more than the minimum payment even clearing it off and starting again (not too big items though don’t go over spending) it goes to show you are a good bet and manage your money well (at least that’s what I read, thanks to the original poster by the way whoever you are) and it has worked for me.
Good luck
