When I was 13, I created an account on eBay and began selling some of my items. Afterwards, I forgot to pay the seller fee of £0.43 and eBay sold the case to a debt collection company who phoned me up.

I ended up paying £10.43 for this, not realising that the debt was not enforcable due to my age.

Would this show on my credit report once I'm 18? And would it affect my credit score in the future?

    Thanks.

I can't believe nobody is mentioning how utterly ludicrous it is that ebay SOLD this £0.43 pence debt to a debt collection agency. What a stupid, pointless, ridiculous waste of time.

I seriously doubt that this would affect your credit record. I actually judge ebay a lot more for chasing a debt that wouldn't even buy a second-class stamp, than I do you for saying you were 18 when you weren't.

I am sure that they can't make anything stick. You wouldn't even have a national insurance number or job at that age FGS.

    Idiots.

If you're worried, maybe ask C.A.B.

All that said, don't lie about anything again though. :)
  • Did you get paid for the item into an ahem illegal paypal account ?

I signed up to ebay when I was 15 and lied about my age (I used my Dad's). I still have the account and I'm now 25.

That was 10 years ago - so I suspect you also fibbed about it.

Why is it ludicrous? The rules are there to be complied with, whether £500 or 5p. Debt is a business, and whether you like it or not, the DCA wants it money, doesn't matter if the applicant lied - they won't manage to enforce, but CIFAS will flag the deception which is the real issue.
