  • Where I live we have separate bins, for paper, card, bootles and otehrs. We nicely sort this out, and even get those nasty letters from the Bin Inspectorate should we put card int the paper bin, or was it the bottles wrong.

Then along come the truck, gathers up my boxes and puts then in the back of the same vehicle, unsorted!

Crisp packets can't be recycled. They are made from aluminium foil glued to a plastic film. Unless you can separate the two layers it is impossible to recycle.

Oxfam used to collect aluminium foil for recycling when I worked there. We often had to remove crisp packets -people seemed to think that if it looked metallic, it must be aluminium!

A lot of things that are made of mixed plastics are difficult to recycle, including some of the clothes people donated...

I think it's time local authorities got together and had a common recycling policy, every authority has different ideas / coloured bins
I live and work in the neighboring authority to the original poster our policy is completely different but we have a great number of workers from the original posters area this causes problems when they dispose of rubbish at work
We put recycling materials in the blue bin, general waste in the green bin, garden waste and food in the brown bin. Tell the grandson were green and recycle a lot, put it in the blue bin not the green bin
