Toyota celica or Hyundai coupe

Make sure you get a "facelifted" celica - the one with the wider "mouth" made from 03/04 ish onwards. The earlier model has known problems with burning oil.
Whilst the Celica is the 'purer' car, given its long heritage, i'd a Hyundai Coupe last year as a trade in and i was very pleasantly surprised. Feels more like a 1990's car, but thats maybe no bad thing in a coupe. The 1.6 in them is just "ok", so look for a 2.0.
Also, leather is more common in 2.0 Coupes and probably worth having.
My wife ran a celica from new back in 2001 - great all round cars. They really need the 17 inch wheels and the boot spoiler, otherwise they look a bit naff. IF you look at one with 16 inch wheels, watch for alloy wheel corrosion - the five spoke standard rim corroded like theres no tomorrow. My wife had to get all four wheels replaced under warranty at a year old on her subsequent MR2.0
