Refused Credit - Report Showing Multiple Searches?

I recently applied for finance through Kia for a new car. They ran the credit application and it was refused. The salesman checked with his Barclays (financing company) Rep who apparently said that nothing bad was showing on my credit report, I.e. No bad history but "lots of credit searches under my name".

I've been with the same credit card for almost a year now, have a Next account which is always cleared immediately but nothing else of note.. I currently rent, so no mortgage etc. Does anyone know why or what might have occurred?

I have never been refused credit before; this one has gone through but with my Mum as Guarantor.

Not sure where to even start to look into these apparent "searches"!?

Thanks!

What happened to your virgin credit card? Also see you've been late with payments before.

As these are visible for 6 years the finance company would've spotted these.

  • That post above made me look at your posts...have you checked your credit file?

I wonder if the fitness club have gone for a CCJ or registered the debt on your credit file. Did you pay it?

The finance company wouldn't have told the rep what they saw on your file.

Yep this was paid to the gym, I've had no other issues since then though.. A new credit card, renting a flat (they credit check then?)

Maybe he was just fobbing me off trying to make it sound better then..!

Nothing happened with the Virgin card, I balance transferred and then paid off, all fine.

I've consistently been fine with payments of rent, credit card, phone etc since so I'd have thought it would be fine.. I guess not.

Will have to wait for my credit report I guess rather than speculation on my past!
  • Not sure whether it means anything, but just had an Experian report back with a score of 972 and excellent! Odd!

It's not odd - the Experian 'score' is a load of made up tosh.
