New VW Polo Considerations

I am seriously interested in the VW Polo and have taken a test drive.
Very impressed with what you get in a small car and the interior is beautifully finished.
Now I am aware that new Polo is making a debut in about April and the upgrades look impressive.
I am now torn whether to buy now or to wait until the refresh. I have never purchased brand new before. What are people's views on if it is best to hang on or not.
Also what is the lead time usually for a new car. I think mine will need to be factory made as I want the glass panoramic sunroof which has to be factory fitted.

The lead time will depend on whether the garage that you order from already have a new car on order. This is quite a long time ago, but when I ordered my new Polo in 2001 one garage quoted me 8 weeks and all other garages quoted me 12-13 weeks. The one who quoted me 8 weeks already had a Polo on order and there was still sufficient lead time to get it to my specification. The others either didn't already have one on order or it was too late to get it to my specs.
It is definitely worth emailing them all and playing them off against each other. I saved a packet this way and the garage who I eventually ordered from said they made £100 profit from selling me the car. I had had my best price from a garage that I despised as their salesmen seemed very untrustworthy and when the garage I eventually ordered from replied via email saying that they had finally tracked down a TD version Polo for me to test-drive I said I'd already driven one at another garage but that the best price was from a garage I didn't want to buy from and if they could match the price the sale was theirs. They actually beat that price by another £100 and threw in a full tank of fuel.
Sorry I have no opinion on either the current or future model of Polo though!0 -
New VW will be at least 12 weeks. With a new model and a very specific requirement it could be even longer. The problem is you won't know how long until you commit to buy it and even then it will be a rough guess as VAG restrict supplies of cars to the UK to keep second hand prices up.
If the quarterly quota for the UK has gone when you order you may have a very long wait.0 -

Hmm. I have just scanned an article saying that orders will be taken in April for the new Polo for delivery sometime in July. Another article says June. I guess it depends if wanting a sunroof is a "very specific requirement". Not sure if they will make some with that fitted during production or if it would be a total factory build. I can't be the only person in the UK wanting a sunroof.
Although I do find you don't see many cars with sunroofs now??!!??0
