Left an old job for a new one and i am a shop lifter?

Looking for some help please guys.
Last week I handed my notice in with my current employer and as I have gotten a job with a new company, been on 2 interviews and good a contract of employment signed by myself and the company and been on an induction day.
Now my new manager is quite "pally" we have been chatting a few times on Google hangouts, and just passing the time till I join my new job. He mailed me today saying that he needs to speak with me, he explained that I have been accused of "shop lifting" by a member of staff he did not disclose if its with the company or another company.
He explained that he would like to talk to me about my past? im sitting here like :eek:
He explained someone from management said I have been "banned from a store" not sure again if he means this company or another company. I explained this is nonsense and I would like you to preform a criminal records check on me to put this rumour to rest. He explained that they need my permission to carry out a check which I have fully authorised.
I have left a job to go to this company and I just feel like screaming and shouting and kicking. I do not and never have had any sort of criminal record. The outcome will be that ill pass the test but I feel like they will try and oust me once my probationary period has ended.
Looking forward to your advice.

Id be seriously considering trying to get my old job back if its still available.
Id also be saying nothing without a witness present to record any meeting and stop talking to him on Google hangout, it sounds really unprofessional all round.
And why should you have to go through some criminal records check when you dont have a criminal record anyway, do you need a criminal record check for the kind of work you do?
Id be asking them to put the basis of this "rumour" in writing and lets see if they want to do this, its all very well saying something, put it down on paper.
Please dont discuss this with any manager on your own and until youve spoken to someone about it.
Stop talking to him out of work time and dont talk to anyone from the company either formally or informally about it without a third party present because you dont know whats going to be said next.
It sounds horribly unprofessional, possibly they've found someone else they want to give the job to and they are trying to think of some excuse to let you go.0 -

Thankyou, my manager has told me he will let me come back, i did say that if something horribly goes wrong could i come back.

I have all the conversations saved, they use Google Hangouts as a way to keep in chat while (he) the manager can talk to his senior (me) members of staff.
If they have no proof or actual evidence of me allegedly shoplifting with this company or any company could I take them to court?

I wouldnt be communicating with him on google hangouts re this. Id be asking them to put the allegation they have made about you in writing, Id send them a letter to that effect, recorded delivery and ask for their response by return post.
They might think twice when they have to put it on paper.
Im not sure about you taking them to court but they need to be careful about saying something like this without having evidence to back it up.
Id be giving ACAS a call. You have very little rights in employment law because youve only just started but Id be very wary about working for a company like this if theyve started making allegations like this before youve even started the job.
If you arent in a union, join one as soon as you can.0 -
OP if what the new company is saying is a lie then I'd want to know who said it and take action against the person as they are looking to blacken your name.We’ve had to remove your signature. No i guess that makes sense, but no I have never been questions or pulled up by security etc... as i am not a shop lifter. From what I gather it someone who knows me who may not want me in the company.0 -
