DVD RW not working (win 8) laptop

I bought aFujitsu windows 8 laptop Life AH532 last year from staples with DVD RW.
Not reallytried to use before but now I wish to try and back up some files to DVD and CDand it wont work.
Windows mediaplayer burner keep stating “insert a blank CD” when one is added….i trieddifferent types of DVD and CDs but still no luck
DVD deviceis SN-208AB…I checked the driver is update….said it was using latest one…butstill no luck. I then tried uninstalling device rebooting and let windowsinstall correct driver automatically…again no luck when I tried to burn.
I did a google search and it seems this DVD RW has been problematic with Samsung Win8 laptops...but cant find any advice for Fujitsu ....
Any helpappreciated…..thanks

Seems like it's a fairly common problem with that drive and is not specific to Fujitsu. I saw one comment that they just disabled it through the control panel, then re-enabled it and it worked. If you've already uninstalled and reinstalled it you may have effectively done that anyway though.
Can it read DVDs, or is it totally inoperative?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. it can read DVDs & CDs
I did try disabling then rebooted to let Win8 find driver it self...seems like it reinstalled the same driver, stating it is current version. still not recognizing any discs when I try to burn any media such as photos or audio0 -

Don't suppose you can try another drive in the computer? Even an external USB drive? Sounds like it could be a hardware issue.
