Laughing cow is only refrigerated in the UK only because we expect it to be, everywhere else in Europe it's an ambient product. I've had it in loads of countries where they don't refrigerate it and it's no different.

Ok, REAL unprocessed cheese survived without refrigeration for donkeys years, but that was before central heating and double glazing and very warm homes today.

I refrigerate my cheese, but bring it up to room temp and beyond before eating. There is no comparison to room temp good cheese and the equivalent cold version.

    Try it!

    Processed cheese...what's that?
  • Cheese in BoP house does not go in the fridge. It sits on the side, in a covered dish, for it has flavour!

when I was a child - many moons ago - fridges were something only the Americans had in the movies. Cheese was one of the few things that would 'keep' without having to worry about temperature. could be why it tasted better then too! refridgeration, really isn't needed. oh and butter didn't 'spoil' either.

Keeping cheese in a covered dish on the side is very dangerous. The cheese jumps out at you and soon it is all gone. :(

Or maybe that's just me. :rotfl:

Shhh, don't tell the germophobes, but it still doesn't if it lives on the side ;)

We are without a fridge or freezer at the moment which isn't too much of problem at this time of year as the kitchen very cold. Have kept cheese, butter and milk in the pantry without anything going off.

I remember the orange cheese in glass jars as well. It was by Sunpat, they also did a white one which came with a green lid.
