Hi everyone
I'm thinking of starting a blog but would want complete control of it so don't want to use sites like blogger etc.
Which web hosting platform do people recommend? Ive seen ipage, hostgator and bluehost but can't decide which one i need to start a simple blog.
Hostgator offer a managed wordpress site. Anyboday had any experience of this?
This will be my first ever website so want to keep things as simple as possible.
Thanks

Your doing things backwards, the host should be the very last choice you make.
First of all decide what functionality you require. After that decide what platform meets your needs. Once you have a platform then you decide which webhost you want to go with.
That said, most are fine with Wordpress and almost all webhosts have Wordpress on one click install0 -
Thanks for the reply.
I want to use wordpress but not too sure what sort of package i need for hosting a blog. Would I be ok with just the basic one or could i use the ones specifically for blogging?
Im guess I'm asking if anybody who runs a blog, which web hosting company and package would you recommend?0 -
Try blogger.com - its free and works OK.
I wont say what mine is but when searched for the type of blogit is its number 1 in googles ranks0 -
Don't waste your money on an all singing, all dancing hosting package. If you're just starting out, and provided you're not expecting insane traffic right away, then a basic hosting package should suit your needs just fine. You can always upgrade if you start to outgrow it.
Most webhosts will offer a one-click install of Wordpress, even on their most basic packages.
http://evohosting.co.uk is worth checking out. Nice guys. Their basic package is £3.99 a month http://www.evohosting.co.uk/web-hosting/starter/0 -
www.twitlonger.com, links from a twitter account.Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

For Wordpress you need a fairly straight forward Linux based web hosting solution.
You do need to look at the overall limits, eg the number of domains you can have under the account etc. Avoid anything that has "unlimited" written a lot of times like the plague, its low grade over sold solutions.
You should certainly be looking at sub £30 a year for hosting assuming you are only going to be having one or two domains/ sites.0
