Installing apps on android- no wifi

Options
Hi

The wifi on my android is broken. There is no USB/LAN port. but I've got an adapter for memory card slot that has USB and LAN.

How do I connect to internet and download the apps. I have tried tethering my Win Vista laptop via LAN but no luck.

Thanks

Bye

What exactly is the adapter you've got? Assuming it functions as a normal network port you'd need to either plug it directly into your router or set your Vista laptop to share its wireless connection over the ethernet port (there's a wizard in the network control panel that should do it for you). Some network devices are auto sensing but some aren't which means you may need a crossover network cable, I haven't used that type of adapter with an Android device so I don't know how easily they work.

Another option is to download the applications you want as apk files on the laptop then copy then onto Android device (through USB or a memory card) and install them from there.

I would say, is it rooted?

If it is then what you need to do is look into "reverse tethering". This allows you to plug it into your computer usb and use the computers internet connection. I use it quite frequently.

If your not rooted then I would suggest downloading the apk's and then copying them across to your phone and install.

It should have USB. How does it charge?

USB to PC. Copy the apps over to the download folder and install?

Use a memory card in the card slot?
