    Usually, masters degrees are funded (or not funded) in a completely different way from undergraduate degrees, so I am surprised that funding allocated for part of a BA/BSc could be redirected for postgraduate study.

    It is also very unusual for postgraduate study to provide any kind of substitute for work experience: both are likely to be beneficial, but they are vastly different and develop the student in different ways.

    She could maybe have been switched an undergraduate masters version of the course.

    I dont recall stating anything about her masters being funded as part of her original degree and as she already has 3 years of relevant work experience and good references then the placement year for her is not so important.
