Hi Wonker,
You should be able to track down what it is in this section of UKW there's most of the main causes of this covered as well as a lot of advice on how to put it right or avoid it.

Alright guys, the problem was the dishwasher had run out of salt and rinse aid at the same time, so everything appeared chalky!
