Specsavers....can I have a refund

Basically bought a pair of specs, from SS. Didn't start too well as I went to collect them & couldn't see! They had put the wrong prescription in the frames. After an 'oh, I see a boo boo here' the assistant went to find the lady who had dealt with me. She duly came over & said she was very sorry....and then went on to say she had ALS done the measurement incorrectly too....let me check again she said!. She then told me she would have them re done the very next day. I wanted to say how unhappy I was, but thought ok, mistakes happen & they will be done next day, so leave it.
I went back next day & they weren't ready but would be in 15 mins. Ok I disappear & return 25 mins later. They are ready. Tried them on, at least I could see. The chap asked me if they were ok, & I said yes but as I only need them for reading I would wear them over the weekend & bring them to be altered if necessary.
Well they are not ok. My poor ears...not eyes...hurt. The 'arms' are not long enough & are as wonky as a dogs hind leg. I paid £125 for these glasses & am not happy at all. I mean I can't simply adjust them to make them longer can I?
I just feel the assistant was not up to the job at all & has bodged them to get them redone quickly. What are my rights as to getting a full refund? I hay complaining but feel its necessary when I have £125 specs which are currently useless.

All it will take is a 2 minute visit to SS for them to sort it out.

They have specialist heating machines which heat up the arms, so they can be bent into the correct shape. Failing that, they will be able to replace the arms, for slightly longer ones for you.

You would have tried the frames on whilst choosing them, if you say they are too short, you would have noticed then. I have worn glasses for 45 years, I have never had a pair that didn't need altering a few days after getting them.

Hopefully my second Cataract op next week will get me away from glasses for the first time. Gone from -9.50 in my right eye to perfect 20/20 vision.

They will be able to sort it for you, just be reasonable with them.
  • Whilst SpecSavers are not the best on many aspects they are very good at dealing with minor adjustments, lost screws etc. The Mrs even snapped the arm off one of her pairs and they replaced the whole frames for free

They will be easy to sort out, no need for a refund.

When you say wonky, that can also be easily sorted, my ears are wonky and so until the arms on my glasses are nice and wonky they sit at an odd angle on my face.

Thanks everyone. I am just being cautious as I didn't expect such a big headache for reading glasses. It should not have happened in my book. I will go back again tomorrow & see if they can be sorted. I am a patient person but feel after the wrong lenses were put in they have got me the only pair of frames left, not bothering to check the length. Anyway hopefully get them sorted, my eyes hurt typing this....still at least my ears don't now ;)
  • why dont you try these guys, very quick and you can actually speak to someone!they offer customers a 10% offer code, but id thought i might as well share it if thats ok? the company is https://www.eyewearglasses.co.uk and the voucher code is RT100! they dont advertise this on sites , just if you order so you could save a bit of cash!

Most frames come with only one arm length. Are they the same frames you chose originally?
  • Spec Savers offer (or did last time I had new Glasses) a 90 day exchange if you don't like your glasses. Even if your new frames need new lenses this is all free. Best bet is go in and have a chat with them, they can sort the wonkyness and even lengthen the arms depending on the glasses :)

OP I had a problem with SS with a new pair of glasses I had picked up. I went back 4 or 5 times to get mine sorted, managed to get them sorted in the end.
  • All my glasses have needed altering...either loosening or tightening arms. The last pair were actually taken apart then put together while I waited.
