Basil keeps dying on me too very annoying as I love it0

Basil is the only plant I manage to keep alive. It sits on the windowsill in the kitchen in a bowl and when the leaves start to droop I fill the bowl with water. Every now and then I pick off most of the leaves and freeze them and then cut it down so it's short again. Every other houseplant I owned has died as I forget to water them!0

That might be the secret. Stand basil in a bowl and put water into thet.
I always water from the top and it always dies on me. Will have another goThank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
Alas, there's no basil - I've tried growing basil indoors and I killed it so I gave basil up as a bad job :rotfl:
The mint and the rosemary are both in their pots which I've then "planted" into the bag. Hopefully this will stop them taking over the bag.
Thank you so much for all the lovely comments, they'e really made me[/QUOTe
That looks lovely be warned though that even when mint is in a pot in the bag it weill soon grow roots through the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot and it will spread.Slimming World at target0 -
That's a gorgeous idea!
I'd say keep an eye on the rosemary too. Years ago I planted a few herbs in a tiny bit of earth when living in a shared house, I moved out, and happened to move back in again a couple of years later. The mint was fine, it was the rosemary that had gone mental and wanted to take over the world!0 -
Thats a great idea!!! that is where I come unstuck as I cant seem to think outside the box and would never have thought of using things like bags!! ooh my mind is opening to other possibilities!!!!0

I'd like to do something similar to the above as I rent, but could anyone give me some advice as to what I can get away with in such a small container? I have Basil quite happily living on my window in the kitchen. I'd love coriander, parsley, mint and chives. OHs parents can give me sage from their bush!0

I also found this:

But being a gardening novice, have no idea how well it would work over here in the UK.0
