Planning question

Ok, so our architect is putting in for planning on our behalf tomorrow. My question is what happens now...
Will they visit us? How long is the public consultation and what does it involve? How long from this ending should we get a decision?
So really I'm asking someone to talk me through step by step :-/ sorry for being so dumb, I've tried looking online but can't find anything

We recently got planning for an extension, ours went through in 8 weeks.

We are Grade II listed though so took a few weeks extra, our council told us about 6 - 8 weeks depending on their case load. Planning officer came out once to look at the plans and site, conservation officer made several visits as he had to check and sign off material samples.

A company I do work for in York have just had a similar timeline with their submission for a new shop - change of shop frontage and design etc and they are also Grade II.
