It would be application fraud amongst other things.
You've pretty much done the same thing by giving a false address to your various banks.
You think i would? my 'address' is a friends address well more like a brother, i wouldn't worry over it and the banks don't mind...
no skin of my bones so to speak....
Fraud? give it a rest will ya :rotfl:• HSBC (Main A/C)

I have a friend who lives in New Zealand for 3 months, France for 4 months and UK for 5months every year, and would have no trouble opening an account. In fact I usually spend more time in the UK than he does.
If you're spending more time in the UK than 5 months, and I assume at one address, then this is your address in the UK. I wouldn't consider that fraud. The fact that "your" address is in France and the address in England is "your sons" makes you think that you don't have a UK address. But if you're spending more than 5 months a year there, I'd consider that to be your part-time UK residence.
Although you may find that proof is needed, which might be hard to come by. You could apply at your local council to be put on the electoral role for one part.
Out of interest, which address is the Nationwide account registered to?0 -

I have opened accounts with my parents address while abroad for 8 months, but having said that, I was on the electoral role there and didn't have a fixed, long-term residence elsewhere. I wouldn't dream of having accounts registered at a friends house however.
And it is actually application fraud, regardless of how lightly you view it.0 -
application fraud?
i guess it's not for me as the accounts where for my address (but moved abroad for a year) so use a friends address

Applied on line then rang them as my on line application was refused. Despite giving them a UK address the jobs worth was adamant I could not open another account because ny current account address is France. I suppose the easiest thing to do is change my address back to the UK. Serves me right for trying to do things properly.0

I can't comment on Nationwide, but I know with other banks you're simply not eligible for a new account if you're not resident in the UK. Expecting someone on the other end of a phone to just ignore their policy for you is stupid.DEBT FREE!

All I'm asking is a reason why the UK banks have this 'policy' when other countries do not. After all they are not exactly renowned for their honesty in dealing with th public. Surely their employees must know, or if they, like the rest of us are kept in the dark possibly point me in the right direction. Maybe I was talking to an answer machine.0

Bank call centre employees are hardly going to be empowered to unilaterally change the terms and conditions of their products and it's pretty ambitious to expect them to be able to explain why the terms are what they are - try a letter to the head office if knowing what the reason is will make you feel better!0
