No Frills cheapest possible wedding advice please

I am researching getting married and want the cheapest no frills option.
  • registry office just us and our two children
  • no rehearsal
  • picnic at public place with friends who can bring own food (place already chosen)
  • no cake
  • no photographer
  • no special wedding dress (seen perfect dress under £100 already)

So I have never been into weddings and paid little attention to how you go about it all, how much is the registry office including all paperwork etc (and what does that entail, I know you have to register your intention to get married? and pay for the registry? and pay for certificates?) as that seems to be my only actual wedding based cost. I am struggling to find these basic things out as all wedding websites etc I have looked at start to go off on tangents about cakes or flowers and I immediately switch off!

  • Sounds great, hope you have a lovely day.

  • Sounds like a lovely private and intimate day. :) Check out your local authorities website, your local council should have a page about the fees for a marriage ceremony in a registry office.

If you go on holiday abroad have you considered a wedding as an add on, someone I know is doing it for a hotels £300 package.
  • My wedding cost about £350 in total with wedding costs, certificates and a dress from ebay (chinese dress brand new made to fit). It was perfect. My husband just bought a tie to go with a suit he already had. I got 2 shirt and tie sets for my boys off ebay. My daughter got a second hand bridesmaid dress. I doubt if it even came to £350!

    £70 Notice of marriage (£35 each )
£49 simple statutory ceremony. Every council has to offer these ceremonies, the restrictions will vary. Eg. Mon- Fri, latest time 11.30am, max 6 guests including 2 witnesses.
You can go to any registration office you want to, you can make a day out of it to somewhere you like to visit for the day? You only need to do the legal paperwork in the district where you live.

£119, you are married & have a marriage certificate.

You do not need rings, you do not need a special outfit. You can get married in your socks!!!!

Everything else, clothes, flowers, rings, food, the list could go on..... But everything else should, in fact anyone will tell you, really must, be what YOU & HUBBY want. Celebrate exactly how you want and have the ceremony as simple or as grand as you want and most of all have a bloody good time!!

I'm pretty sure you'd get arrested for indecent exposure...
Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A

  • It's surprising how touching and emotional just 6 people in a room can be.:>

Hope you have a lovely day. X

The statutory ceremony option (£45 in our local office) does not usually allow any guests other than the bride, groom + 2 witnesses, so your children would have to be the witnesses (if deemed old enough)
