Suitcase or holdall??

Another vote for getting a four-wheeled ("spinner") suitcase. For my recent holiday I bought a very light hard case and found it a great improvement on a two wheeled one. It was very easy to wheel alongside me. I took a rucksack and handbag for my cabin baggage and the rucksack fitted on top of the case so I didn't have to carry it. Although there were plenty of trolleys at the airport (far fewer at railway stations) I didn't bother to use one as my case was so light and easy to push.
Another consideration is that a hard case is more likely to be weather proof than a soft one.
A good case can be expensive but should last for years but it's also worth looking at discount retailers. Also, buying a luggage scale will reassure you that you're within weight allowance!0 -
Some of the wheeled holdalls are front heavy when packed and will fall over as soon as you let go of them which is a nuisance.
I think the very light ones in Matalan look good but as they are quite flimsy always check them over BEFORE you leave the airport so you can report any damage sustained during loading/unloading right away.0
