Benefit cut from £60 per fortnight to £57

Hi All
I posted on here a few weeks ago about my other half - he is waiting for an ESA medical tribunal and has been living on £60 per fortnight, he has received a letter today to say that £3 is to be deducted off this and the reason is just 'a deduction'. I mentioned before that he is on sick for depression and this is making the matter so much worse - his tribunal isn't until mid March. Any advice or help? He isn't good dealing with people and I work full-time, he is going to CAB on Monday though for advice
Thanks as always all for any advice x

  • Hi Nannytone
No we live separately and he has had his 12 months of contribution based so is now on income based ESA - this has been the situation for at least the last 3 years.
  • Hi Indie Kid
Is a social fund a crisis loan etc? If so then no, he hasn't - could he apply for one?

    Yes it is.

The whole system has changed now, I do believe. It's now administered by your local council.

the assessment rate for ESA for someone over 25 id £71.70
foe him to get less than this means he either owes the DWP money or he has some other sournce of income
  • Hi Nannytone
He failed his medical last year so has had his benefit cut until the tribunal for his appeal has been heard - he doesn't owe them anything and definitely doesn't have another income - I wish he did!!! :)

    it doesnt make sense.
whilst waiting for the appeal, he would get assessment rate.
if iver 25 that would be £71.70 a week

the only people that can tell him why he is getting the amount he is, is the DWP
he needs to phone them and ask
  • Hi Nannytone
Yep I agree - it doesn't make sense and drives me mad! He is 41 and is getting £60 per fortnight, I have a day off next Friday so plan to try and get him sorted out - I doubt he'll go to CAB on Monday as he won't be able to deal with them - thanks for your help
  • Hi Nannytone
After just speaking to me he has just told me that he never told them I moved out last March and we have lived apart since then - I reckon that is the answer!! They will still be taking my income into account for his claim. Can't believe I never thought of asking him that, just assumed he would have told them.........bloody hell!!
