Grr, parking :(

Options
I just wanted a small vent after this morning in the car park.
I pulled into a tight space, because the car next to me was almost a foot over the line. She then rapped on my window and said I had to pull out because she couldn't get into her car. I informed her that she was over the line, but she said the person in my space before me was really far over. So what? It doesn't mean she should park so far over the line!
Anyway, I did pull back to let her out, with her huffing and puffing all of the time. Then another car pulled into the space, about 2 feet away from me, nice and central. Then opened his door and promply bashed mine (there was plenty of room to get out still leaving a lot of room). He just kind of put his hand up and said sorry, which it all I'd expect, but now I have a wee scratch.
It's my first car and I only got it a week ago :(
Ah well, better get used to car parks!

I was also annoyed already after being followed around a maze which is hard to navigate, at 20 mph (it was a 20mph limit) and having the woman behind me beeping and gesturing because I was holding her up. I would completely understand if it was a 30 limit, but it wasn't!

That is guaranteed to make me slow down just to annoy them.
  • I usually would if it were faster. Especially if I'm doing the limit and someone tailgates me, I'll keep going slower until they maintain a safe distance (as advised by institute of advanced motorists).

Even if she was over the line she still couldn't get in her car, so it doesn't seem an unreasonable request for her to ask you to move the car so she can get in.

  • It's not unreasonable, but all of the huffing and puffing was a bit ott, as was the explanation that she parked that way because of the person who was previously in my space. Would have made a lot more sense if it was the person on the other side who had been over their line!

She was probably a bit annoyed you had blocked her door. You must have seen what you were doing in blocking her when you parked your car.

For every beep I generally decrease my speed, enough beeps will grind me to a complete stop.

Fair point, to be honest I'd not be annoyed if it wasn't for the guy dinging me with several feet between us :)

I wouldn't, 30 is the maximum not the minimum. It depends on the conditions and whether someone is new to the area and maybe looking for a specific address.
    It's someone else's fault.

When I see a car not parked straight, I always assume that the driver is aware that they might not be able to get back in their car and have accepted that. I always park straight even if the car next to me hasn't. If I do what they've done, then I'm just perpetuating the problem, and I might not be able to get out of or back into my car.
  • You should see me when I go in a car park I drive around for a while to find a space out of the way as most people try to park as close as possible. If I have to park next to a car I usually park next to newish car as they are more likely to be more careful. I have had my new car now for 2years and no dinks thank goodness. I always look and see what the cars look like a unwashed unloved car with scratches etc I would never park next too them as they are more likely not to care if they damage your car. I have learnt all this from my partner as he is a car fanatic lol.
