Visa Debit Payment Issue

Not to sure where to start on this one so I thought of here!!
I took a Visa Debit card payment yesterday for a reasonable amount but unknown to me, the card was cancelled upon payment. It wasn't until today that I realised the error.
I have a surname, which is not listed in directory enquiries and the declined Visa Debit receipt with card number.
I'm only a small company and to loose out on a transaction like this will hurt.
Can anyone recommend what can be done to trace the customer??

Hi, start with the Police. Several issues here....
1. It may have been the cardholder that has done this on purpose therefore obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception or plain old theft. (The bank will not give you any details of the cardholder but may give them to the Police)
2. The customer may have stolen the card and then used it in your shop. (Unlikely but not impossible)
And also speak to your insurance company regarding your loss.0 -

I have just noted that the receipt does read "Transaction Cancelled" rather than "Transaction Void" ...0

Sounds like they pressed the cancel button during the transactions (After they have entered their PIN).0
