Car has been written off...
Hi guys
My car has been written off by insurers, i need to inform dvla that I'm no longer the reg keeper.... on the yellow part of the v5 it says insurance co need to fill in and sign their details?... Do i just fill in that part and send it myself? The people at the insurance co didn't have a clue when i spoke to them yesterday... Ive read the v5 now but cant ring them as they are closed.
The car has had roof taken off it and its cat b so they are not interested in any paper work/history for it.
Thanks in advance

When the [reputable?] scrap dealer comes to take it away, they will sort out the V5 and tell the DVLA.Would you say that to a stranger's face in the street? No? Then why type it on a forum?0

Normally you'd send the complete V5 to the insurer and they will deal with it all for you but certainly check with the insurer0

When my car was written off i called DVLA and asked what to do with the part as my insurance co couldn't sign it.
They advised just to fill in the details as best as they can and send it out.
I filled it in, unsigned and attached a covering letter as well as my letter from the insurance co.
Got a letter shortly after to let me know i was no longer the registered keeperAll your base are belong to us.0 -
My insurers told me that they update the DVLA electronically. I have returned the yellow part of the form to DVLA with a covering letter and a copy of the letter from the insurers confirming the write off.All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0

You won't have a problem them, you should get confirmation it's no longer registered to you in 1-2 weeks. All your base are belong to us.0

Thanks guys.... Ive filled in the yellow part and sent it off with a covering letter.0

If you do not have a letter from DVLA within 4 weeks confirming they have updated there system, give them a call. If for some reason DVLA do not receive your letter (due to post) or incompetent staff you will still be registered. Sending recorded makes no difference as no one signs for them apparently!!?0

CAt B if you opt to keep the car should be about 2/3% of claim value.
Then get a local breakers merchant to buy it from you?
REcently wrote off my car, Cat C, cost me £146 to keep the car, sold if for £2500
