Lloyds PPI reclaim

Some months ago my husband applied for a refund of PPI for 2 loans taken from Lloyds. The bank agreed one claim and turned down the second and sent a cheque for the agreed claim. My husband returned the cheque, as requested, and advised the bank that he would be contacting the Financial Ombudsman. Several months have gone by, the Ombudsman haven't yet looked at his claim but, and here's the point of this post, Lloyds have paid the refund direct to his bank account. When contacted they have agreed that if the second claim is upheld by the ombudsman they will send the funds, no problem. This is in direct contrast to their original decision - they requested the cheque be returned. We're puzzled by their actions and, not surprisingly, a little concerned that we're being taken for a ride. Has anyone else experienced this?

Why have you refused the money on the upheld complaint? The two loans are in no way linked (unless they are part of a consolidation chain) and the fact that one was upheld and the other declined is completely irrelevant. There are basically two complaints and you are only disputing the outcome of one of them...
