Citroen Berlingo........grrrr garage problems
I took my citroen berlingo 2001 to the garage as it needs an MOT but the screen wash is not coming out ( I have pocked a pin in the nozzles but still nothing) I looked under the bonnet and the pipes appear to be clear and attached to the washer feeds onto the windscreen but I cannot see underneath the bottle to see if the pipes are connected there. I'm a total amateur with cars but the man at the garage told me four hours labour and a new pump; I can hear the pump running fine when I pull the arm to activate screen wash. I feel like I might be being fobbed off a bit. Can anyone suggest anything or has anyone had this issue with their car? I'm currently without a car as I can't have its MOT done without getting this sorted.

Assuming there is water in it, If the pump is pumping and pipes were leaking the water would end up on the floor. Try disconnecting the pipes to find any blockages.

Just because the pump is rotating doesn't mean that it's pumping. Pumps often fail if you don't use antifreeze screen wash during freezing conditions, or if someone adds coolant antifreeze to the screen wash bottle.0

Thank you kindly for the replies. I will have a further nose under the bonnet and see if I can disconnect pipes and flush them. Failing that it might be a trip to the salvage for a new pump

It could be a blocked gauze filter on the pump, so either way the pump's got to come out.0

Well it shouldn't be anything like 4 hours labour, that is just crazy. Try eBay for a replacement pump, they usually are just a push fit. If the washer bottle is under the wing you can often get to it by removing the headlight (three screws) which is easier than removing the wheel and undershield. Check a berlingo forum for advice on your model and do it yourself or get a mate to.0

Pull out the pump from its rubber mounting grommit, and clean out the filter as it will be blocked with gunge.
refit pump, fill with screenwash and all will be goodIf it isn't broken, don't try to fix it.0 -
