Anyone tried Valspar water based gloss paint?

We've just moved into our new house and are cracking on with the decorating. Im wary of an oil based gloss as all the ones Ive used before tend to yellow :(

I picked up a can of valspar water based gloss from b&q today however can find very little info online and no reviews!

Has anyone tried this paint before? Any advice for using a water based gloss instead of oil based?

Not tried that brand but water based paints usually need more coats than oil based ones.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

The water based ones are often marketed as quick drying - Dulux quick dry is awful as it leaves the brush marks in it. I agree with you however that the old oil based paints aren't now available and their replacements aren't as good in staying white. I've recently (based on recommendations on here) started using Ronseal Diamond Hard wood paint, which is getting close to the old style gloss paints. Need to make sure it is well mixed, and don't go back over it once you've moved on as it does dry pretty quickly.

Thanks for your replies- I'll check out the Ronseal as that sounds more promising, im wary of using an unknown brand so may well return the Valspar!

bedec aqua advance is very good , as is johnstones aqua , obviously you don't get the high mirror shine of a solvent based gloss , but it's not far off , however w/b paints won't yellow , don't smell as bad and dry in an hour or so , it's all i use these days

Valspar has been around for many, many years & I believe it used to be one of the paints available in Woolworths.

We have a Johnstone's centre very near to us. Do they sell to the public and which is best their Aqua or another brand satinwood ?

I want white (not too shiny) for window ledges, skirting boards and some sapele doors which are , at the moment, sealed and varnished.

Are any paints tougher than others, as I have small dogs who scratch at doors.

aqua is the w/b range , it's not as tough as solvent based paint but not sure if they do a satin based aqua , but it's a reliable make
