Please help car sold 2 years ago still in my name :(
I sold an old car 15years old needed loads of work for MOT, a bloke advertised will buy any car for scrap, I sold it to him for £90, it wouldnt start he came in a van and bump started it, and drove it off.
that was 2 years ago. I sent off my part of the V5, and forgot all about it.
Now I suddenly get a letter out of the blue Take formal notice road traffic contravention, hundreds of pounds fines on that old car !!!!!!!!!!!
What can I do now? Please help.

I trust you sent off completed section 9 or is it 10 of the V5?
Weeks later you would have had a receipt from the DVLA that you are no longer responsible for the car.
Besides that, the car would have to have the VED renewed so you would have had notice about sorn.
Something doesn't add up, unless of course DVLA have made an error.0 -
If it was taxed and insured I'd be inclined to do an askmid search to get his details0

If you were still on dvla files as owning the car you would have had rfl or sorn letters over the intervening 2yrs. So have you ignored them, until these fine letters arrived?0

We returned a car to a dealer as it was clocked. Got a refund. V5 turned up, so we sent the yellow section off to dvla. Got a notice saying they had updated records etc. No V11 or anything in the following year. Still got a NIP more than year later.
So as far as I can tell there is little point telling the dvla anything as either it makes no difference or the police don't use them.0 -
Who was the letter from? Police, court, council? Or some private company?
A private company called newlyn.
I have been on the phone to DVLA explained everything to them. All they can tell me is the car is not in my name now, they will not tell me who or when.
But the date of the traffic fines was after I sold it.
All they tell me to do is in writing sign a letter saying what date I sold the car then they will write back to me and I can show that to this private company.0
