Growing in small pots or window boxes

Hello,

I am really interested in growing my own, however i currently only have a small concrete back yard and am therefore confined to growing out of pots and window boxes.

In the past I have successfully grown herbs and lettuce. As it is coming into the Spring, I was wondering would anyone have any advice on what else I could be growing in pots?? Would LOVE to grow my own veg if possible!

    Hi

You are better off with a small number of larger pots than lots of little ones.

Do you have any restaurants near you? If so what out for the large polystrene boxes in which a lot of vegetables are imported. Anything up to 2"x 1.5"x 1".

They also bin large veggie oil tins that need the tops removing and good clean inside to make big pots.

I grow in pots spring onions, salad, strawberries, herbs. In large pots or sack you can grow spuds

Strawberries and cherry tomatoes.. We get better success with cherry types. Larger ones may take too long to grow and ripen if the weather is rubbish.

Chilli plants? If you have kids maybe peas? Only a couple, Not enough for dinner but nothing better than nipping into the garden for dinner.

Peas, cherry tomatoes followed by strawberries....mmmm

Over the years I have grown lettuce, carrots, onions, spring onions, potatoes and strawberries in pots, you just have to make sure that you keep them watered well as the pots are not as forgiving as the soil is.

Thanks all! I might try spuds this year. The shop around the corner sells sacks for growing them. Might try peas too!
