Laptop Inverter Problem?

I have an Acer 5732z about 3 years old. Over the last few days on odd occasions the screen has gone black, but very faintly the screen display is still actually there. The laptop hasn't crashed, just a black screen. I found pressing Fn +F6 brought the screen back. After 'googling' the problem, the inverter board or backlight it seems to be the more likely fault particularly with Acer laptops. My question is if it was either of these two would the screen not be going blank more often than just 3 times over 3 or 4 days? Could it be a keyboard fault with the Fn+F6 key? (I've never used this key before) Or something else?

Anyone with an opinion or experience of this type of problem please? The inverter seems a fairly simple and cheap fix but I'm not convinced this is the problem.

A friends Acer which appears the same as yours has the same problem. She switches it off and on again which eventually works. The Fn + F6 woul be much easier. I read closing and opening the lid, which switches the screen off and on again, may work but I haven't tried this. If you find the fault please tell us.
