Hi Mugglewump
I know exactly what you mean. I have used clear sealants in my house.
In the kitchen and shower room I used a clear gloss varnish, and in the family room, a matt finish on top of the painted walls. Same reason as you, it was very handy for scraping off the baked beans and muddy hand prints.
I don't have any left, and can't remember the name of the product, but I know that I bought at least one of them in B&Q a number of years ago. Look around where they display stencils and decorative finishes. I think I had the choice of one litre and half litre bottles. It went on very easily with a broad brush, and the paint colour was not affected in any way.
Good luck with whatever you do.

I gave up jogging for health reasons; my thighs rubbed together and my knickers caught fire!

I did my hall in a lovely light cookie/chocolate colour and it was matt......I'm afraid it didn't last long with my 2 year old...I had to buy the silk version and repaint the whole hall/landing again....I coulda cried!!!
When you wipe matt you still see where you wiped....it looks shabby. It went a lighter shade but maybe thats because of the colour I chose?????
Good luck xYou may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -
thanks everyone for the advice - think i'll take a trip to B & Q to check out their range.
thanks also for advice about the baby wipes, got plenty of them! and about mixing paint with water for touch ups, that's good to know.
next time, i'll know not to use matt.0 -
Your welcome, but dont forget to click on the thanks button lol.:D
Like I mentioned above, the best paint for wiping over. even with an ordinary cloth is the 'dulux real life paint', it is fantastic for this, and the paint does not come off onto the cloth, or you see the faded mark on the wall.:D0 -
I know you've already painted, but next time you could use a washable matt paint. That's what I did with our hall and stairs. It's more expensive but it still looks okay (5 years and counting!)0
