valuebasket misrepresentation

Options
Made a purchase with valuebasket. The site shows a UK phone number and, twice on the homepage a picture of a lorry next to the words "free shipping". So you're led to think that delivery will be from the UK. However when you look more closely you see that:

"Delivery Times

With our Free Delivery service, orders are typically shipped out within 2-4 business days and delivered within 6-9 business days. Unexpected circumstances may prolong delivery up to 30 days on rare occasions. "

and

"Import, Taxes And Fees : Where import duties and taxes (directly and indirectly related) are applicable on overseas deliveries outside Hong Kong, these will normally be subjected to the recipient; directly related taxes and duties include those import taxes/duties that are levied on the invoiced order, any courier's customs handling surcharges and any Free Domicile forwarding surcharges levied by the courier; indirectly related taxes and duties arise from different customs policies around the world which may apply other additional customs or clearance costs."

So actually products are delivered from Hong Kong and you're subject to a lengthy delivery period and the risk of having to pay import duties.

So I've gone and cancelled my purchase. But it's still frustrating. Why can't they just be honest and show an aeroplane next to the free delivery wording?

The free shipping next to the picture of the lorry and telephone number lead me to believe it is free shipping and they have a contact number. It doesn't lead me to believe they are based or have a UK presence.
  • They will spend a good proportion of their journey on a lorry, possibly longer than they will on a plane. I fail to see how you are led to believe they are shipped from the UK.

Did you read the shipping info before you paid? Nowhere does it imply items are shipped from the UK.

Unless your house has been built on the runway at an international airport, the possibility of your package being delivered to your front door by an aeroplane is somewhat remote don't you think? but there is an extremely good chance that it will be delivered by someone driving a van or lorry.

Sorry OP but I have to agree with everyone else, nothing on the front page indicates that delivery will be from the UK.
